Rutherford County Tornados for The Tennessean

Rutherford County was hit by an F3 tornado on Friday afternoon. I spent Saturday with Tennessean writer Colby Sledge going around and reporting on the aftermath. This is the fourth tornado I have had to cover while living in Tennessee and it always looks the same and always really sucks. Peoples belongings strewn all over the place, weird areas where an entire home is wiped off of its foundation and the house next door isn't even touched, 18 wheelers and buses laying on their side, and on and on. I met a girl who was celebrating her 30th birthday when it hit, another couple who had only owned their home for two years and now it was gone, another who had bought their home for their parents and now it was destroyed; there are just a million stories behind these kinds of things. One thing that was amazing though was how many people just dropped whatever they were doing and traveled from all over the area to help out. They could be at home, comfortable, but instead came out to sift though piles of mud, powerlines, and wreckage to help people they had never even met.
