Charles and Glenda Wallace adopted sisters Haley, 3, and Kiersten, 5, about a year and a half ago after the girls were put into foster care due to their mothers prenatal health problems. Both girls have an amazing story of survival and recovery but I dont think I am allowed to disclose the specific details. Just trust me when I say that the Wallaces are amazing parents and have brought both children back from what would certainly have a detrimental life. In the year and half that the girls have lived with the Wallaces, they have gone from Haley not moving, lying in bed for 6 months and being fed with and eye dropper, to running around in the front yard eating cheese puffs and playing dress up with her sister.
The story in The Journal focuses on how, due in part to the recession, many companies that would normally offer financial assistance to families who are looking to adopt may now be cutting those programs. Its and interesting article by Sue Shellenbarger and if you met Haley and Kiersten or anyone like them, you would really understand how important it is to keep funding for these things available.
